Obituary of Grace Buccafurno

HERKIMER: Grace (Cherry) Buccafurno, 96, a longtime Herkimer and Little Falls resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion. Born in Saratoga Springs on February 26, 1920, Grace was the daughter of the late Giovonni and Isabella (Piscopo) Perrino. Raised and educated locally she attended Little Falls Schools. On November 26, 1938 she was united in marriage to Libro Cerasi and to that union came the blessings of her cherished children; he passed away on October 14, 1968. June 14, 1973 marked the blessing of a second marriage to Jack Buccafurno with whom she shared 23 years until his passing on January 14, 1997. Grace was the owner of Cherry’s Restaurant, Herkimer where she spent most of her time tending to the needs of her customers and “Cherry’s Pizza” was her specialty. The genuine matriarch of her family, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren were the center of her life and the heart of her happiness. In her spare time, she enjoyed her vegetable garden, cooking and going to Vernon Downs and Saratoga. Grace was a member of Sts. Anthony & Joseph Parish, Herkimer. She is survived by her beloved children, Isabella (Bella) Maida and her husband Louis and Jean Cerasi of Herkimer and Marco Cerasi and wife Janet of Ilion; her cherished grandchildren, Louis Maida and wife Kim, Joseph Maida, Tony Maida, Brittany Cerasi, Danielle Cerasi, Lindsay Cerasi and Jamie Cerasi; her great grandchildren, Leanne Seiler and husband Eric and Joseph Maida and great great-grandchildren, Daniel, Nicholas and Maddison Seiler. She is also survived by a brother, Dominick Perrino and wife Rosemary of Little Falls, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Vincent "Jimmy" and John Perrino and her sisters, Anne Colistra and Louise Volk. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday April 1, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home (F.K.A. Holleran Funeral Service) 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315)866-1011. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 beginning at 8:30 AM from the chapel of the funeral home and at 9:00 AM from the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph, Main Street, Herkimer, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated by The Reverend Quy Vo, Pastor. Interment will take place later in the spring at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. In lieu of floral arrangements those wishing to make a donation in Grace’s memory may consider Sts. Anthony & Joseph Parish, The Herkimer County Humane Society or a charity of one’s choice; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Grace’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Harry J. and Kevin E. Enea, Funeral Directors.
