Saddened to hear about Roger. He was a good friend and a gifted musician. Played various styles of music with him from time to time but will always recall his "jug-time" style with the harmonica and guitar in hand along with a host of tunes ... To the Potter daughters, We never met, but Roger and I were dear friends during our formative years in Leominster. I lived a couple of blocks away, on Day Street, in Leominster, along with my family of seven kids. I remember his parents, Ayn and Howard, fondly, as they entertained me many times in my visits to their home on 48 Fairview Street. One of our favorite hobbies in the growing years was throwing snowballs at buses and cars while hiding in a snow fort behind Fitzgerald's fruit farm. We got so good at it that one driver lost control of his car and hit a snowbank after being struck in the windshield by two, perfectly lobbed snowballs. The person chased us down into my family's cellar, but my mother stuck up for us and chased him off. Roger and I played on the same little league teams (as pitchers, thanks to all the snowball throwing). In Babe Ruth League we pitched against each other, and neither of us could look at the other when facing each other at the plate without laughing. We learned to play guitar together during high school, along with others like Jimmy Lamothe, also from Leominster. We hung out in college, and he was best man at my wedding. Later we formed the "Doctor Smythe and the Amazing Dancing Bears" folk group and "flyback" team. Later in life I moved to California and we lost touch. I now how much he loved music and would have enjoyed playing some of the old favorites. I still have dreams about being in my house or his. I am sure he loved his daughters and grandkids, as I do mine.

I was so sorry to hear of cousin Roger's passing. Roger and I are first cousins and his parents, Ayn and Howard Potter, were very good to our family. My fondest memory of Roger was visiting him with my brother at his home in New Hampshire in the mountains in the 70s. I also remember going to see him at his home in Herkimer and he coming to visit me in New York. I remember in subsequent years visiting him from time to time as well. He always made you feel special. But, the indelible mark I have, in the recesses of my mind, is Roger playing the guitar and the harmonica at the same time. He was such a talented, humble kind soul. Our deepest condolences to Alison and Susan and the family. The world lost a good man. They don't make them like Roger anymore. Rest now in peace, Roger. I know you're going to Heaven. Roger and I were boyhood friends and played baseball together from Little League through Leominster High School. Roger was a pitcher and I always marveled at how much zip he had on a pitch, given his spindly frame. A good friend and teammate - he will be missed. My condolences to the Potter family.
