Obituary of Richard Gary Engle

FRANKFORT – Mr. Richard Gary Engle passed into the hands of his Lord on Friday July 1, 2016 at his home. He was born in Utica on January 6, 1942, the third son of Frederick and Eileen (Dunn) Engle. He was educated at Our Lady of Lourdes grammar school and UFA. On June 9, 1962, he married Sharon Skane in Blessed Sacrament Church, Utica, in a ceremony performed by his uncle, Rev. James Engle. Richard was employed as grocery manager / butcher for Chicago Markets. He later owned Foodland Market in Mohawk. He retired from Remington Arms, Ilion, after 30 years of service. He was a longtime member of the St. Francis de Paola Society in Frankfort. Richard was a devoted husband and father, and he especially enjoyed summers with his family at Camp Kateri Tekakwitha in Otter Lake, where he once served on the board of directors of the Otter Lake Association. Richard is survived by his loving wife Sharon and three devoted children: his daughters and sons-in-law Varinya and Bill Sheppard, New Hartford, NY, Dresden and Paul Olcott, Penfield, NY, and his son and daughter-in-law, Todd Engle and Michele McIntyre, Lake Mary, Florida, and his beloved grandchildren: Bryn Sheppard and Tyler Sheppard, Maya Engle and Dylan Engle, Aria Olcott and Aurora Olcott; as well as his brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Nancy Engle, Christopher and Linda Engle, his sister-in-law, Sheila Engle, and his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Joseph Zinicola, and Sharon’s sister Sylvia and her husband Wayne Gentile, and many dear cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Thaddeus, his special sister, Delane, and his parents-in-law, Anthony and Thelma Skane. In accordance with Richard’s wishes there will be no calling hours. His Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to his friends Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, Funeral Directors of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion (Town of Frankfort) NY 13357 (315) 894-8000. A Traditional Latin Requiem Mass will be offered at 10:00 AM on Thursday July 7, 2016 at St. Thomas More Chapel, 738 Roberts Street at Sunset Avenue, Utica, NY. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clayville, NY. In lieu of floral offerings, “In Memoriam” Mass Cards will be available at the services.
