Obituary of Catherine T. Harrington

HERKIMER-Mrs. Catherine T. Harrington, who lived a long and beautiful life of 101 years, passed away peacefully, early Monday morning, January 16, 2017, at Valley Health Services in Herkimer.

 

She was born on April 20, 1915 in Little Falls, a daughter of the late Daniel and May (Fitzpatrick) DeForrest and was a graduate of Herkimer High School. She went on to attend and obtain her nursing degree from St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Utica. Her marriage to David P. Harrington took place on February 17, 1939 at St. Francis de Sales in Herkimer. Mr. Harrington passed away on July 22, 1990. She worked many years at the Herkimer Hospital on the maternity ward then going to the Folt's Home as the Director of Nursing. After 'retiring' she worked part time at Van Allen's Nursing Home in Little Falls, the Mohawk Homestead, and the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home in Ilion. She was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer.

 

Survivors include her daughter in law Betty Harrington of Reedsburg, WI, her daughter Mary Jane (George) Bokowski of St. Augustine, Florida, her son John 'Jack' (Ruthann) Harrington of Herkimer, her son Michael (Marge)Harrington of Caroga Lake, Ny and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son David R. Harrington, her brothers James, Daniel, and Robert DeForrest, her sisters Mary and Helen Sivack.

 

Her family is inviting friends and relatives, as they come together to celebrate her life and lay her body to rest. Her funeral service will commence on Saturday morning, May 20, 2017, at 10:00AM at St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, where she will be interred beside her beloved husband, David.
