Obituary of Florence "Corky" Bormann

HERKIMER – Mrs. Florence L. “Corky” Bormann passed away after a brief illness, on her 66th birthday, October 5, 2017.

Born on October 5, 1951, Florence was the daughter of the late Woodrow T. and Betty L. (Traver) Mason. She was raised locally and received her education in Mohawk schools. On February 4, 1987, she was wed to the late George A. Bormann, and the two shared in a devoted union of almost 28 years, until George’s passing on January 2, 2015.

Corky truly lived up to her nickname and was a vivacious woman with a spitfire personality. She was full of energy and her great sense of humor and matter-of-fact attitude easily drew others into her presence. She was a social butterfly who was always on the go and nothing gave her greater happiness than being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas; and she was always the life of any family gathering or get-together. She loved a good cup of tea, her brother-in-law’s chili and meatballs, and her daily visits to see her friends at Walmart!

She is survived by her children, John Gokey and fiancee, Brandy Seaver of Mohawk, Loretta Cass of Watertown, Pamela Bormann and fiancee, Neil Dixon of Ilion, Eric Bormann of Arizona, and Kimberly Vargas and husband, Joel of Herkimer; her many grandchildren, especially Branden Gokey, Jordan Bormann, Cheyanne Bormann, Josefina Vargas, Joel Vargas, Jr., Carleigh Bormann, Kyle Becker and Christopher Becker; and numerous great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters and brother-in-law, Betty Ann Ingraham and Dorothy and Donald Ingraham; her brothers, Woodrow Mason, Jr. and Larry Mason; a special niece, Mary Lou Dingman; and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her brother, Willy Mason, and her sisters, June Monohan and Marion Dingman.

A special thank you is extended to the staff of Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, especially to Corky’s nurse, Kate, and Dr. Copertino, for their care.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside service in honor of Corky, which will take place on Friday morning, October 13, 2017, at 10:00AM at Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer.

For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions to the Herkimer County Humane Society, 514 NY-5s, Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes will be available at the service.
