Obituary of Kim Scherneck

ST. JOHNSVILLE – Kim Scherneck died unexpectedly on May 20, 2019 following complications from cancer. He was 72 years old.

 

Kim was born on November 23, 1946, in Pirna, in Saxony, Germany, to parents Siegfried and Ingeburg Scherneck. He graduated from St. Johnsville High School in 1965 and continued his education at SUNY Morrisville State College earning a degree in electrical engineering. Upon graduating, he trained at Mayer Knitting Machines in Germany which qualified him to work for Gehring Textiles/Helmont Mills in research and development of knitted fabrics. He continued working with the company until his death.

  

Kim is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Elke and Lothar Reitz; his brother and sister-in-law, Lutz and Darleen Scherneck; his sister, Michele and her partner, Philip Andolina; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Kim loved giving to others and supporting others. He defined his life’s success by what he did for others, notably his family, and by his achievements at work. He lived a simple and independent life. He loved music and gardening. He loved reading, learning and talking about science, philosophy, and politics. His family will miss their long conversations with him over coffee and anything chocolate.
