Obituary of Leon G. Brinkerhoff

HERKIMER - Leon Brinkerhoff, 68, of 315 N. Prospect Street, apt 405, Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, June 30, 2019, at the Foltsbrook Center in Herkimer.

Leon was born November 26,1950, in Herkimer, the son of the late Floyd and Louise (Beach) Brinkerhoff and received his education in the Herkimer schools. Leon has worked numerous jobs, including factory work, the meat industry and taxi service as both a driver and then dispatcher.

Leon enjoyed spending time with friends and family; he can be considered by many to be a true inspiration and a compassionate and loving person to all who have met him. Leon was always willing to share a coffee, a life lesson, or just a simple ear for those in need of a big brother. Leon was a huge fan of chess in which he won numerous tournaments both in college and the open forum. Leon`s other passion was to be one with nature. It was not unusual to see Leon on a bank of a river, at a lake or a nearby stream, testing his luck at catching local fish and then releasing them back to nature. Leon`s love for all creatures was second to none.

Leon was predeceased by his late sister, Janice Springer. He is survived by three brothers, Arthur Brinkerhoff, of Herkimer NY, Michael Brinkerhoff, of Glenville, Ga, and Kurt Brinkerhoff, of Herkimer, NY. Leon is also survived by many loved nieces, nephews and friends so close that they also share the bond of being part of our family.

All are invited to a memorial to celebrate the life of Leon, on Monday, July 8, 2019, at 12:00 PM, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY 13350.  There will be a calling hour before the memorial, from 11:00 AM to 12 noon.
