Obituary of Robert L. "Mike" Casler

 

PALATINE BRIDGE - Mr. Robert L. “Mike” Casler, age 88, of 20 Center Street, Palatine Bridge, New York, passed away in a courageous and dignified manner on Wednesday morning, November 6, 2019, in Schenectady, New York. Mike was cared for by a very attentive staff and an excellent cardiologist at Ellis Hospital. He also received tender loving care from the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and his family is most grateful for their professionalism.

He was born in Litchfield, New York, on May 22, 1931, a son of the late Charles and Nellie (Donahoe) Casler and he graduated from West Winfield School. Mike was a dedicated lifelong farmer here in the Mohawk Valley, lastly being employed as a dairy farmer with Victor Sammons Dairy Farm, Stone Arabia. Mike enjoyed a long and productive career that has set a wonderful example for all of us. As a tribute to his dedication in March 2000, he was the proud recipient of the ‘Unsung Hero’ Award, presented in Memory of Russell Buswell. This award was presented to Mike in recognition of a lifetime achievement as a dairy herd manager of unparalleled dedication to his duties. We could always find Mike enjoying his spare time doing crosswords and word finds!

His loving family survives including his children, Sue Shiminski and her husband, Don, of Damariscotta, Maine, Bob Casler and his wife, Pam, of Amenia, New York, Beth Veit and her husband, Bill, of Palatine Bridge, Rich Casler, of Cooperstown and Scott Casler, of Cohoes, New York; his brother, Dick Casler, of Herkimer; his grandchildren, Jessica, Michelle and her husband, Dennis, Trisha and her husband, Mike and Kelly and her husband, Chris; ten great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Pat Casler, of Ithaca; his brother-in-law, Jim Wagner, of Fayetteville, New York; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mike was predeceased by his siblings, Fred, Jim, Doris, Ruth, Stanley, George and Homer.

Funeral services will be held as a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 30, 2019. The time is from 1PM until 4PM and the location is at the Fort Plain Elks Lodge, 15 Old Station Road, Nelliston, New York. Those wishing to remember Mike in a special way are asked to consider a donation in his memory to HFM Agriculture PTECH Program.  Checks may be made to HFM BOCES – FFA.  These donations would be so greatly appreciated and may be mailed to the main office at 2755 State Highway 67, Johnstown, New York 12095.  Please place in subject line – Robert “Mike” Casler.  Thank you for this wonderful tribute that Mike would be so grateful toward. Envelopes will be available at the celebration of life and additionally may be obtained from the Enea Family Funeral Home.
