Obituary of Shirley S. Malavasic

LITTLE FALLS – Mrs. Shirley S. Malavasic, 91, of East Monroe Street, Little Falls, New York, passed away Monday, December 2, 2019, at the home of her daughter in the Town of Waterford, New York.

She was born on September 9, 1928, in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Anthony and Martha (Lukaseik) Szymanski, of Little Falls. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School and at one time worked with Greg Appliance in Herkimer. She was united in marriage with George Malavasic, on December 1, 1956 at St. Mary’s Church in Little Falls, with Father Reger officiating. George passed away August 6, 1999.

Shirley and George spent many dedicated days and evenings at the ice-skating rink in Little Falls, selling soda and just making for a fun-time for the local children. She was very community oriented within the City of Little Falls, having been active with the Little Falls Hospital Guild, fashion shows, and the PTA with the school. Shirley enjoyed gardening, walking, opera and playing the piano.  She was a devoted New York Yankees fan.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Dr. Jolene Malavasic; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Richard Warren, of Little Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Chet Szymanski.

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Herkimer County Meals on Wheels, 109 Mary St., Ste 1101 Herkimer County, Herkimer, NY 13350.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2019, at 11:00 AM, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, Little Falls, NY, with Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia, officiating. There will be an invitation to visit with the family from 10:30AM until 11AM, Saturday morning at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery, later in the spring.

All funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Funeral Directors Harry J. & Kevin E. Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia (315) 823-2424.
