Obituary of Caroline (Franchi) Salarpi

LITTLE FALLS – Mrs. Caroline (Franchi) Salarpi, 97, of Little Falls, died the evening of Sunday, January 26, 2020, in the comfort of her home, following a lengthy illness. Born on February 2, 1922, she lived her entire life in Little Falls. She was the widow of Lido Salarpi, to whom she was married for 63 years. She was the daughter of Dominick and Rosa Franchi, also of Little Falls. She was one of twelve siblings, most of whom were born in Italy and perished in the great influenza epidemics that swept Europe. Mrs. Salarpi attended local elementary schools before she joined the workforce at a dress factory and later as a teacher’s aide in the city schools. She spent many years working in the kitchen at the Salarpi Family Restaurant and the Piccolo Café. She was a member of the former St. Joseph’s Church and choir. She was a quiet woman who enjoyed music, reading and movies. She had a deep love for children, always taking care of the neighborhood kids. Caroline was particularly close to her two sisters, Stella Gamberdella, of Little Falls and the late Agnes Liscio, also of Little Falls. She leaves a daughter, Linda Salarpi, of Little Falls; a sister, Stella Gamberdella, of Little Falls; a nephew, David Liscio and his wife, Christine, of Nahant, Massachusetts; and nephew, Robert Gamberdella, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. In addition, she leaves many great-nieces and nephews, with special nieces Amanda Jaquay and Dorinda Miller. She also leaves special friends, Linda Kinney, Marianne Graziadei, Lisa Graziadei, John Graziadei and Michelle Rieman. Her funeral service will take place Thursday, January 30, 2020, at 12:00 Noon, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, in Little Falls, New York. There are no calling hours prior to this. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral at noon. Interment will take place later this year at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer, at a time private to the family. Arrangements have been secured with Funeral Directors Harry J. & Kevin E. Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia (315) 823-2424.
