Our cousins, James, David, and Bonnie, lived in upstate New York, and we lived in South Florida. I have few memories with my cousins, but I remember some. Our family visited New York one Christmas when I was 13. Our cousins introduced us to snowball fights in their front yard in Skyler; and to toboggan rides on the hill across the street from their house. I didn’t wear a hat or earmuffs, so my ears were nearly frostbitten by the end of the day.
When they visited us in Florida, we introduced them to salt water, seaweed, and hot sand made of tiny, sticky seashells. David hated Florida’s sticky sand. He complained about it bitterly and often. Unfortunately, too, he got severely sunburned. He was the most shocking shade of bright red! We must have forgotten tell him to wear sunscreen. I had to smile when I read that his grandchildren called him “Grandpa Grumpy Dave.” I guess he always remained a little bit grumpy or maybe his trip to Florida made him that way!
David visited again one summer when I was quite a bit older. I asked him what he liked to do. He said he liked to sing, so I asked him to sing something for me. He did, and I remember being blown away by his voice. It was strong and clear. Beautiful! He sang the song “They Call the Wind Maria.” Remember the lyrics: “Away out here they’ve got a name for rain and wind and fire. The rain is Tess, the fire’s Joe. They call the wind Maria.” When I think of David, I always think of that song and his beautiful voice. We can rest assured,” away out there,” David is singing with the angels, and I bet they are glad to have him.
My heartfelt sympathies to his daughters and all of his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Dave .....we can't say anything that will sooth our souls at this time. In this life time you were and remain irreplaceable.One of the kindess innocent people ever born. Dave was unique in that he never knew hate or how to conjure malice , he just always rose above the fray and focused on doing what was right by those he knew and loved . My most sincerest condolences go out to Heather and Holly and their families. Your father, “Daddy Dave” was one of the kindest souls I’ve known. Heather and Holy,
I am sorry to hear about David. I remember all of the times he and I spent together in younger years singing at church, and also enjoying family time. I spoke to him not too long ago, and was happy to talk about good times we use to have. I will miss all of the times he sang while I played guitar while we enjoyed similar music.
