Obituary of Roselyn M. Smith

MOHAWK – Mrs. Roselyn M. Smith, 88, of Bellinger Street, Mohawk, New York, beloved wife, our Mom, our Gramma and our inspiration passed away on Sunday evening, May 17, 2020. She was born on October 30, 1931 in Herkimer, New York, the daughter of the late John and Irene (Mayo) VanNort and was educated in Herkimer schools. She grew up in Herkimer and has resided in Mohawk for the past 56 years. On September 18, 1948, she was united in marriage with Donald I. Smith, in Niagara Falls. Don passed away on October 31, 2009. She was last employed at Allied American Abstract after 17 years of service. She was of the Methodist faith. Roselyn will always be remembered for her loving, easy going, sweet, kind and generous nature always with a smile on her face. Her family was her first priority and they brought her the greatest happiness. She will be greatly missed. Roselyn will also be remembered for her ability to knit and crochet, her greatest talent and hobby. Survivors include her loving family, her children, James Smith and wife, Gail, of Herkimer, Judy Michaud and her husband, Robert, of Ilion, Kathleen Schrader and her husband, Donald, of Herkimer and Donna Martin and her husband, James, of Mohawk; Her sisters, Winifred Brelinsky and her husband, John and Patricia Williams and her husband, Ronald; Seven cherished grandchildren, Melissa Smith, James Smith, II and wife, Kristen, Thomas Michaud, Andrew Schrader and Kelly Ivanchak, Michael Dayton and wife, Tracy and Jason Dayton and wife, Betty Jo; great grandchildren, Jordan & Logan O’Bryan, Mattea, Will & Marlow Schrader, Molly Ivanchak, and Colin Dayton. Roselyn left a note for her special grandson Tom, close to her heart “love you – miss you – good night” Thanks Tom, Love Gramma. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald; her sister, Marguerite Godlewski; and her brother, Dennis VanNort. Funeral services will be held this week at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, with Rev. Robert Wollaber, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Memorial contributions may be made to Make a Wish Foundation, 5005 Campuswood Dr., East Syracuse, NY 13057.
