Obituary of Patricia Dawn (Joynt) Foss

HERKIMER – Mrs. Patricia “Tricia” Dawn (Joynt) Foss, age 56, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Thursday morning, May 28, 2020, in the privacy and comfort of her home. At the time of her passing, she had the love and support of her devoted family at her side. She will be profoundly missed by her family and friends. Born on September 14, 1963 in Utica, New York, Tricia is the daughter of Cynthia A. (Boris) Joynt and the late Francis A. Joynt. Tricia believed in the value of education and was proud and determined to achieve all her education and life goals through much adversity. She attended Utica public schools and graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1981. Tricia matriculated from Nazareth College in Pittsford, New York in 1985. She later graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville Florida in 1991 with a Master’s Degree in Special Education. She spent a number of years as a special education teacher in Florida schools before returning to Utica. While working as a special education teacher in the Utica area, she enrolled in SUNY Cortland and earned a graduate degree in school administration. She later worked as a Vice-Principal in Frankfort and as the head of the Special Education Department for the Mount Markham Central School District in West Winfield, New York. Tricia ended her career as the Business Administrator for the Mount Markham Central School District, working until her illness no longer allowed her to do so. Tricia met the love of her life, Kevin Foss, after her return to the Utica area. On April 12, 2008, Patricia was wed to Kevin with whom she shared 14 wonderful years. With great joy, the union gave Tricia her son Daniel Patrick Foss for whom she lived and breathed. Tricia and Kevin later moved to Herkimer where they chose to raise Daniel. Sadly, Tricia was predeceased by Kevin in 2015, a loss that remained palpable until her untimely passing. She was an avid reader and a member of the Herkimer Library Board as well as a longtime parishioner of Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church where she served as a confirmation educator. Tricia loved to travel and to go on cruises, often in the company of extended family or her lifelong friends, Susan Khan and Helen Eaton. She also made numerous trips to Florida to visit family. Tricia later enjoyed spending time at her mother-in -law’s camp on Caroga Lake, and doting on her son and her cats. Tricia leaves behind her beloved son, Daniel P. Foss of Herkimer, New York, her mother, Cynthia A. Joynt of Bradenton, Florida; her sisters, Laura Elias and husband Robert of Syracuse;, New Yorkand Jennifer Joynt – Sanchez and husband Steven Michaels of Bradenton, Florida; her brother, Steven Joynt and wife Lisa Hopkins of Bradenton, Florida; her mother-in-law, Theresa Foss; and her sisters-in-law Grace Blais and husband Rick, and Concetta “Jetta” Timmerman. She is also survived and remembered by her loving nieces and nephews, Alexandra Elias, Samantha Carney, Gregory Elias, Margaret Sanchez-Joynt, Catherine Sanchez Joynt, Diana Sanchez Joynt, Olivia Michaels, Ricky Blais and Cory Blais, all of whom have special, loving memories of their wonderful Aunt Tricia and were all enriched for having known her. Tricia also leaves behind devoted friends and colleagues, too numerous to mention, with whom she shared her life. Tricia’s family will gather June 4, 2020 to honor and commemorate her life with a funeral mass at Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church followed by a burial in Calvary Cemetery, in Herkimer. Her final wishes have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington St. Herkimer, NY (315) 866-1011, Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, Funeral Directors.
