Obituary of Thomas Nelson Geer

Mr. Thomas Nelson “Tom” Geer, age 62, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many, ended his watch on Friday afternoon, May 29, 2020 in the privacy and comfort of his home. Born on December 12, 1957, Thomas was the son of the late Nelson and Florence (Bennett) Geer. He was raised and educated locally and graduated from West Canada Valley High School. Tom was a hard worker and a skilled mechanic, spending the majority of his career with TP Brake & Muffler, Nichols and G&I. He retired in 2009 from the Herkimer County Highway Department. On November 18, 2006, Tom was wed to the former Sharon Reina, and together they shared in a blessed union of almost fourteen years. Their marriage was filled with laughter and love and it was obvious how much they truly cared for one another. Tom spent forty-three years as a member of the Schuyler Volunteer Fire Company. He was a Past Chief and President of the Board of Directors for ten years; and of course, nobody could forget his thirty-years spent as Schuyler’s beloved Santa. His involvement also extended into the Herkimer County Fire Association, Utica’s Engine 11 and the International Association of Fire Chiefs. In his spare time, Tom loved hunting, bowling, playing softball with his fellow firemen, firematics and farming. He could oftentimes be found puttering around his property, helping out on the neighboring farms, or just lending a hand to friend and family members in need. Tom was a gentle giant and a kind person; he had an immense love for his family and his influence on those he leaves behind will never be forgotten. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon; his children, Amanda Miles of Syracuse and Tyler Miles of Frankfort; his granddaughters, Kelsey and Emily; his sister, Deborah Geer of Chicago; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends too numerous to mention. Tom’s family will honor his life by conducting a drive-up reception line on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 from 12NOON – 1:00PM at the Schuyler Volunteer Fire Company, 120 Newport Road, Utica, NY 13502. Please follow the directives of the firemen as they direct the flow of traffic. Friends and family are asked to please remain inside their vehicles at all times throughout this tribute. Final committal and internment will take place at the West Schuyler Cemetery. Tom’s family has entrusted his final wishes to the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000, Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, Funeral Directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.eneafamily.com.
