Obituary of Joseph J Sciarra

HERKIMER/DELRAY BEACH, FL - Mr. Joseph J. Sciarra, Jr., age 84, entered into eternal rest, peacefully, on April 21, 2020 in Boca Raton, Florida. Joseph was a longstanding parishioner at Saint Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Boynton Beach, FL as well as Sts. Anthony & Joseph Catholic Church in Herkimer, NY. Born on November 24, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph J. Sciarra, Sr. and Gabriella Sciarra. He was raised in his younger years on Mulberry Street in NYC before moving with his family to Herkimer, NY. He was a graduate from Herkimer High School in 1953 and attended Mohawk Valley Community College. Joseph enlisted with the United States Marine Corps at Paris Island, South Carolina, where he served his country during the Korean War. He was active in duty from 1954 to1957 and received the National Defense Medal. Joseph played the saxophone in the United States Marine Corps marching band. Joseph was a businessmen and the former owner of the General Herkimer Hotel and Inne Towne Motel, both in Herkimer, NY. He also owned and operated the Clubhouse Tavern One in Utica, NY. Joseph was a long withholding Rotary Club member and a lifetime Elks Lodge member. He was also a life-time avid golfer and member for many years at the Mohawk Valley Country Club in Little Falls, NY. He enjoyed playing golf with friends, which he continued to do throughout the years while living in Florida. Joseph would have celebrated his 60th Wedding Anniversary on May 14th, 2020, with his loving wife Joanne E. Scialdo-Sciarra. He was a true family man. Joseph always had the attention of everyone, with his charismatic, charming and funny personality; he could tell the best endless stories filled with his humorous jokes, big smile and laughter. He was truly loved by all, especially his two daughters, Michele & Celene, and his wife, Joanne. He especially had a love for singing and a love for Frank Sinatra. Joseph is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joanne E. Scialdo-Sciarra of Delray Beach, FL; his two daughters, Michele Sciarra-Arena and husband, Frank Arena, III of Stuart, FL and Celene Sciarra-Blandford and husband, Scott Blandford of Columbiaville, MI. Joe absolutely adored his three grandchildren, Jacqueline Arena and Christian Arena of Stuart, FL and Connor Ross of Columbiaville, MI. He also leaves his brother, Robert Sciarra of North Carolina; and his sister, Susan Sciarra -Murphy and her husband Terry Murphy of Maine and Florida. Joseph’s family bid their farewells to him in a private ceremony.
