Obituary of Henry Grabow

PETERBOR0-ILION - Henry A. Grabow, 73, entered into eternal rest, on July 9, 2020, in the comfort of his home, with the love and support of his family by his side, after a 3 year brave and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Henry was born in Canastota, NY, on April 29, 1947, the son of Arthur and Olive (Bliss) Grabow. Henry graduated from Morrisville Eaton school class of 1965 and furthered his education at SUNY Morrisville where he graduated in 1967. He married the former Barbara Crysler, on September 12, 1969 and they settled in Peterboro where he was proud to have built their family home himself. Henry retired from E.J. Button and Son as a construction engineer. He was also a 40 year member of the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Dept, serving as Asst. Chief. Henry enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren who gave him much enjoyment. ‘Poppy’ could always be counted on to be in the bleachers cheering at their sporting events. He was an avid motorcycle rider taking much pride and pleasure in his Harley Davidson motorcycles over the years. He continually looked forward to his motorcycle rides with his ‘Wednesday Crew’ of friends which gave him incentive and motivation throughout his illness. Aside from his father, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Gavyn Butler who we take comfort in knowing he has been reunited with. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Grabow; his daughter, Julie Moreau and her husband, Eric, of Ilion; a son, Jason and his wife, Susan, of Morrisville; his daughter, Jennifer Butler; his son, Jeffrey Grabow; 7 grandchildren, Canon Moreau, Braden Moreau, Colton Moreau, Kirsten Grabow, Darren Grabow, Sydney Butler and Jefferson Grabow. He also leaves two sisters, Arlene Franchini and Emily (Tom) Fonda; and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank his very special relative and friend, Becky Dean for her care and support, his nurse, Judy and the other wonderful staff from Hospice that provided Henry with compassion throughout the last months of his illness. In keeping with Henry’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours or services. Those who wish to remember Henry in a special way may make donations to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, NY (Town of Frankfort), (315-894-8000).
