Obituary of Sophia P. Corso

ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mrs. Sophia P. Corso passed away on Nov. 9, 2010, in Prescott, Ariz. She was born on May 27, 1918, in Amsterdam, N.Y. She is the daughter of Michael and Josephine Kozlowski. Sophia was a kind and compassionate person who was full of spunk! She co-owned Corso's Men's Clothing and Dry Cleaning, along with a Laundromat and car wash in St. Johnsville, N.Y. She met her husband, Dario, in the church choir and married in 1934. He passed away on July 21, 1991. Sophia was an active member of the St. Johnsville Business Girls, St. Patrick's Catholic Church and many other organizations. Hobbies were ceramics, knitting, sewing and crafts. Her retirement in Florida was enjoyable and included swimming, dancing and taking college courses. Her favorite pastime was dancing the Polka! Sophia later moved to Arizona, residing at Granite Gate and was best known as "Mama Mia." Sophia is survived by Carol Bollinger, of Prescott, Ariz.; Dennis Laraway, of St. Johnsville, New York; sister, Betty Copper, of Chittenango, N.Y.; and two nieces and two nephews. A 10:00 AM interment service for Sophia was held on Thursday September 17, 2020 at St. Johnsville Cemetery, at rest with her husband Dario and her family. The family suggests that donations be made to a favorite Humane Society or Hospice Family Care in Sophia's name.
