Obituary of John E. Gilbo

LITTLE FALLS – It is with great sadness that the family of Mr. John E. Gilbo, age 78, a lifelong resident of Little Falls, New York, mourn that he passed away peacefully, Wednesday, October 7, 2020, in Little Falls, New York, after a courageous battle with a brief illness. He was born January 27, 1942, in Little Falls, was educated here and spent many years living with his family on West Main Street. John just loved playing golf and enjoyed bowling with the Saturday – Sunday Co-Ed League and the Monday Night League, Softball for Geraty Pools and Bocce for Raiello’s News. He worked as a pressman for the Evening Times and worked at Herkimer County Community College. He was married to Roberta “Bobbie” Murphy, on August 26,1961 and Bobbie passed away in October of 1996. He is survived by his beloved family: his children, Kelley Gilbo and her boyfriend, Frank Leek, Kevin Gilbo and his wife, Dawn (Lehner); his grandchildren, Danielle Lippert and her fiancé, Brian Harper, Jr., Ashlyn Lippert, Chase Gilbo and Olivia Gilbo; his brother, Jim Gilbo; and his several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He is lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews and he was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret (Dinneen) Gilbo; his son, Francis “Fran” Gilbo, in May of 1981; his sister, Mary Papaleo; and his special father-in-law, Francis Murphy and mother-in-law Mary Murphy (Gorinshek). Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer where he will be laid to rest with his family accompanied by a small graveside prayer. Although there are no calling hours, relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service and the interment will follow. If you plan to attend the graveside service, a face mask will be required. It is the wish of the family that contributions in John's memory may be offered to the Herkimer County Humane Society, 514 State Route 5S, Mohawk, New York 13407. Envelopes for this purpose will be available at the services on Friday, October 16th or anytime at the Enea Family Funeral Home. The family is so very thankful and appreciative to the Little Falls Hospital Emergency Room and Third Floor for the care and compassion they provided to John and his loved ones during his final days.
