Obituary of Mark W. Preston

MOHAWK – Mark W. Preston, age 60, a lifelong area resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, December 3, 2020, after a valiant battle with cancer. His passing occurred in the privacy and comfort of his home with his beloved family at his bedside. Born on October 12, 1960, Mark is the son of Joanne (Knout) Preston and the late Leroy Preston. He was raised and educated in Richfield Springs and attended local schools. Mark was a man of many talents and an extremely hard worker. After completing his schooling he went to work for various companies throughout the Mohawk Valley. He was employed with the Town of Warren as well as with Empire Harvester before starting his own business, Mid-Valley Farm, which he operated from 1992 – 1997. He then went to work as a truck driver for M.S. Carrier before landing at Union Tools until they closed down in 2006. For the last thirteen years, Mark has been employed as a Maintenance Bus Driver with the Richfield Springs Central School District. On October 2, 1999, Mark was wed to the former Pamela LaFountain and the two have shared in a loving and devoted union of over twenty-one years. As a couple, they were inseparable; they enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, boating, eating out and even drove to and from work together every day! Mark enjoyed hunting and fishing with almost all of his family members and even took in kids from school throughout the years, treating them to concerts or dinners to just be a supportive ear. He was a generous and giving man with a kind heart and a dedication to his extended family. He is survived by his wife, Pam; his children, Steven Preston, Anne Preston and Kimberly Preston along with their families; his siblings, Greg and Penny Preston, Gary Preston and Debbie Comstock, Kevin and Debbie Preston, Brad and Maria Preston, Robert Preston, Jodi and Tim Hill, Michelle and Mark Ashford and Donna Preston; his in-laws, Penny and John VanBuren, Carol and Tim Moore, Kathy and Dale Barrett, Steven LaFountain and Kari James, Susan Burdick and Berri Shirley and Michelle and Doug Call; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He also leaves his Godchildren, Tammy Facemire, David VanBuren and Michael VanBuren. Aside from his father, Mark was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Sidney and Shirley LaFountain, and his nephew, Jayden LaFountain. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Lourch and Jason Glass and the team at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for allowing Mark these last few years with his family. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours for Mark on Sunday, December 6, 2020 from 2:00PM – 4:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000.
