Obituary of David W. Flanagan

CEDARVILLE-WEST WINFIELD – David W. Flanagan, age 73, of Richfield Hill Rd., West Winfield, passed away peacefully with his wife and pets by his side. He was born on March 9, 1947, in Utica, the son of Francis and Cecilia (Rheam) Flanagan and graduated from Utica schools. On August 14, 1993, he was married to Nancy Schaepe, at the Mohawk Reformed Church. He spent many years as a delivery driver and mechanic before finding his true love of Emergency Medicine. David was an Emergency Medic, at Edwards Ambulance Co., Chadwicks, for over 30 years. He was a founding member of COCVAC Ambulance Crew and worked at Prospect Ambulance, MOVAC, Old Forge Ambulance, Inlet Ambulance and Cedarville Ambulance. Mr. Flanagan was also the past President and member of Cedarville Fire Dept. and was Trustee at the Millers Mills Community Baptist Church. Surviving family members include his wife of 27 years, Nancy; his daughters, Shannon Costello and her husband, Mike, Cheryl Calenzo and her husband, John, and Christine Somers and her husband, Carl; his son, David Flanagan and his wife, Trisha; his stepsons, Scott Crewell and his wife, Heather, and Dustin Crewell and his wife, Kelly; 10 grandchildren, Joshua, Jazmin and Dakota Costello, Kimberly Flanagan, Christian Ruegar, Jonathon Ruegar, Ashley Kendic, Syri Crewell, Tyler Crewell and Brynne Crewell; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father. A Celebration of David’s Life and Prayer Service will be held later in year 2021 at a safer time when the Covid restrictions are lifted, at a date, time and place to be announced.
