Obituary of Stewart C. Hicks

ILION – Mr. Stewart C. “Skip” Hicks, Jr., age 59, of Weber Avenue, Ilion, New York, passed away at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, Town of New Hartford, on Thursday, January 14, 2021, after a long battle with COVID-19 yet always surrounded with the love, hope and concern of his loved ones. He was born on March 5, 1961, in Herkimer, New York, the son of Stewart C. Hicks, Sr. and Darlene (Young). After his graduation from Poland Central School, he eventually accomplished his welding certificate from Mohawk Valley Community College. He had been a lifelong resident of our area. He was married to the love of his life, Sherri L. Scofield, on August 24, 1985, in Newport. Skip was an accomplished carpenter. He was a Union Carpenter Local 277 for 32 years and worked with National Builders, Utica, New York. For nine years, he was with the Meat Cutters Union, Utica Veal, Marcy, New York. Skip was an accomplished bow shooter and was the current President of Kettle Beaver Hunting Club, Salisbury Center and absolutely lived for hunting. We will miss Skip tremendously and his memory will live on in our hearts forever. He leaves his beloved wife of over 35 years, Sherri L. Hicks; his mother, Darlene Reynolds, of Herkimer; his sister, Dawn Evans, of Mohawk; his mother-in-law, Patricia Scofield, of Cold Brook; in–Laws, Judith (Lawrence) LoCash, of Ilion, Tracy (Sergio) Dudin, of Ilion, Kelly (Robert, Jr.) Strong, of Oriskany Falls, Mindy (Butch) Lindsay, of Macedon, Georgette (Kevin) Reylea, of Cold Brook and Donna (Joseph) Wallace, of Frankfort; as well as thirteen nieces and nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins; and many special friends, including Rob Dennis and Eric Kennedy as well as Steve Weigin and Bill. Skip always enjoyed special times that were spent with Uncle Neil. Skip was predeceased by his father, Stewart; his stepfather, Francis “Frank” Reynolds; and his father-in-law, William Scofield. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, from 3:00PM – 5:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, in Ilion, New York (Town of Frankfort). A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 5:00PM, immediately upon the conclusion of visitation, with Pastor Sue Holland, officiating. The family will meet later this spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, Poland, New York for Skip’s spring burial. If you plan to attend the calling hours or remembrance service, due to COVID 19, a face mask will be required. Thank you.
