Obituary of Eugene A. Gunn

LITTLE FALLS - It is with deep sadness that the family of Gene Gunn share his passing on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at The Alpine Rehab Center, in Little Falls, NY. Gene was born June 25, 1928, in New York City and was raised and educated in Mahopac, NY. He served his country proudly as a veteran of the Korean War. In 1956, he married Dolores Sorbera and they shared a loving marriage of 50 years before her passing in 2006. Together they raised 4 children. Gene worked for Putnam County Highway Department and later retired from the Mahopac Central School District where he was employed as a bus driver and mechanic. He has many fond memories of his time at the school and his coworkers. For side work Dad was a sought after house painter in our hometown. He was always working 2-3 jobs so our family would have anything we needed. He was also a lifetime member of the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department and the VFW. An avid Yankee fan, Daddy especially enjoyed Old Timers day and his favorites, The Core Four. If only Cash had asked for his opinions, there may have been a few more championships. Daddy liked to be busy and putter around his workshop. He often offered his expertise on the correct way to do things to his young neighbors Mike and Chet. And to their credit, it was accepted graciously. He enjoyed all of our neighbors so much, especially the four legged ones. He loved to watch them play from the front window. Daddy was predeceased by our mother, Dolores, in 2006; his great-grandson, James Paul DeAngelis, in 2016 and his fur babies Rusty and Tilly. Gene leaves behind his children, Kathy DeAngelis, of Little Falls, Butch and Jackie Gunn, of Colorado Springs, Frank and Christine Gunn, of Mahopac, NY and Theresa and Andy McEvoy, of Little Falls. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Joe DeAngelis and Jessica, Jason and Anna Gunn, Spencer Gunn, Jordan and Dan Rivera, Sydney Gunn and Phil DiNapoli. Two great-grandchildren will cherish his memory, Kailyn DeAngelis and Rylee Rivera. Gene had a very special bond with his sister-in-law, Joan Stankiewitch and her daughters and grandson, Maria Elena, Angela and Trevor. He was also quite fond of his extra granddaughters, Reina and Skyler. Daddy’s wishes were that there be no calling hours. The family will welcome family and friends at the home address at a later date this spring to celebrate Gene’s life. We have so many fun stories of our Dad and would love to share them with you and you share yours with us. There have been so many wonderful memories formed over the years and you have all been a special part of his life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the VFW or a charity of your choosing. Gene’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe St., Little Falls, NY, Funeral Directors Harry J. Enea, Jr., Kevin E. Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia (315-823-2424). Online condolences may be left at www.eneafamily.com on the Internet.
