Obituary of William A Childs

MOHAWK – Mr. William A. Childs, age 81, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 17, 2021, at The Grand at Mohawk Valley where he has been a resident these past few years. Born on October 25, 1939, William was the son of the late William A. Childs, Sr. and Evelyn (Mergenthaler) Childs. He was raised and educated locally, graduating from Mohawk High School with the Class of 1957. William was a hard-working man and spent his career with Chicago Pneumatic where he retired as a Millwright after many years of service. Although he never had children of his own, Bill adored his nieces and nephews and never missed a milestone in their lives. As they grew up, their Uncle Bill was always present for them and was a regular influence on their lives. He enjoyed attending their sporting events and also sharing with them his love for sports. He often attended Little Falls Mets games and was particularly fond of hockey. Bill is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Pearl and Timothy Dunn and Mary and Gary Urich, all of Mohawk; his brother, Ernest Childs of Georgia; his sisters-in-law, Regina Childs of Florida and MaryAnn Childs of Mohawk; and his many, many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. Aside from his parents, William was predeceased by his four brothers, Edward, James, Charles and Emmett Childs. Due to current health restrictions, the Childs’ family will gather privately to bid their farewells to Bill. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place in the Spring of 2021 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk. Interment will follow in Mohawk Cemetery. Both will be announced in the months to come. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Bill’s final wishes were pre-arranged and entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315) 866-1011, Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L.
