MOHAWK – William B. Hunt, Jr., age 83, formerly of Johnson Ave., Mohawk, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at Foltsbrook, Herkimer. He was born on September 7, 1937, in the Town of German Flatts, the son of William B. Hunt, Sr. and Katherine (Mosher) Hunt and attended Mohawk schools. Bill was a veteran, serving in the US Army. Bill also served as a volunteer fire fighter for the Alexander Hose Company for several years. On August 15, 1959, he was married to Ellen Desgrosielliers, at the Paines Hollow Church. She died on January 10, 2005. Bill was employed as a heavy equipment operator at NYSDOT, Herkimer, for 37 years, retiring in 1992. Surviving family members include his companion, Barb Goodson, with whom he resided; 3 sons, William B. Hunt III and his wife, Susan, Ronald A. Hunt and his wife, Shari, Randel S. Hunt, Sr. and his wife, Dawn, all of Mohawk; 12 grandchildren, Kristin, Amanda, Courtney, Alexandra, Jacquelyn, Hayley, Zachary, Emily, Randel, Jr., Ryan, Kaylee and Amanda; several great-grandchildren; his sister, Jean Mang; his brother, Russell Hunt; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his wife; his parents; his sisters, Ann Soposki, Louise Edick, Betty Smith, Nancy Mitchell and Dorothy Hunt; and his brothers, George and Lester Hunt. In keeping with Bill’s wishes, there will be a graveside service held later this spring of 2021, at Mohawk Cemetery, depending on COVID restrictions at that time.
