Obituary of Bertha J. Thompson

HERKIMER/SCHUYLER – Mrs. Bertha J. Thompson, age 82, formerly of Herkimer and currently residing in Schuyler, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 23, 2021. Born on June 19, 1938, in Fort Plain, Bertha was the daughter of the late Augustine and Beatrice (Walts) Stalteri. She was educated in Herkimer schools and over the years, worked for the Mohawk Valley Bake Shop, Jack’s Jewelers and The Vogue. Bertha was married to her high school sweetheart, Bernard “Bill” Thompson, on August 15, 1959 at the First United Methodist Church in Herkimer. They shared in a loving and blessed union of over sixty-one years. Bertha was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Throughout the years, Bertha loved to travel to the Adirondacks and to Maine with her husband and best friends, Joe and Rene Camarata. She looked forward to her annual Tupper Lake trips and whenever she travelled, she loved to go shopping! She enjoyed any time spent with her family and friends; and could often be found playing cards, especially Rummy. Her contagious laugh and “snort” would put a smile on everyone’s face and light up the room. Bertha was a life member of the Michael Pliseck VFW Post #4915 Ladies’ Auxiliary and was a parishioner of the First United Methodist Church in Herkimer. Bertha is survived by her beloved husband, Bill; her children, Cheryl Zumbo of Herkimer, Brian and Janine Thompson of East Herkimer and Melissa and Dan Derenches of Albany; always in her heart was the memory of her son, Scott Thompson, who passed away on December 29, 2020. She also leaves her grandchildren, Ryan, Megan, Brittany, Cassandra and Steven; her great-grandchildren, Bianca, Dean and Lincoln; her brother, Dominick “Papa Dom” Stalteri of White Lake; her Aunt Marge; and her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 10:00AM – 12:00 NOON at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000.
