FRANKFORT – Mrs. Dolores M. “Dee” Vivacqua, age 89, a lifelong Frankfort resident, passed away peacefully on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the Abraham House in Utica, where she has received compassionate care over the last weeks of her life’s journey. Born on August 9, 1931, Dolores was the daughter of the late Kelly and Nabiha (Havasabian) Thomas. She was raised and educated locally, graduating with the Frankfort High School Class of 1948. On June 2, 1951, Dolores was wed to Carl F. Vivacqua at St. Mary’s Church in Frankfort and together they shared in a blessed union of over fifty-five years until Carl’s passing on February 8, 2007. Together, Dolores and Carl worked hard and raised their family on traditional values of faith, love and togetherness. Dolores was a woman ahead of her time and she always worked hard to help support her household and children. She worked for a time at GE and then spent sixteen years on the assembly line at UNIVAC in Utica. She then took a position as an Account Clerk in the Electric Department with the Village of Frankfort where she worked for another sixteen years until her retirement. Always going above and beyond, one of Dolores’ favorite stories was how she would answer ambulance calls in the days before the 9-1-1 system. Even though she had no formal training, she knew the calls would go unanswered unless she picked up the phone; which she would do and then promptly dispatch the ambulance over the village radio! Upon her retirement, she received formal recognition for her efforts from a grateful community. As a woman of great faith, Dolores practiced her Catholic traditions as a longtime parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Apostles in Frankfort. Prior to that, she was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Frankfort where she was proud to be one of the first laypersons asked to be a Eucharistic Minister. She was very involved within her community and was a longstanding member of the S.S. Addolorata Society, the St. Francis di Paola Ladies’ Auxiliary and the Young at Heart Senior Citizens’ Group. She was also a past member of the American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary and VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary. Dolores and Carl enjoyed numerous parties at the American Legion over the years. She was also one of the founders of the ladies' Friday night bowling league. Dolores enjoyed any time spent with her family and friends and she shared many laughs and good times with them throughout her life. She was never afraid to speak her mind and one of her favorite pastimes was shooting craps at the casino. Dolores is survived by her daughter, Carla Vivacqua and her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Bea Vivacqua, all of Frankfort; her grandson, Brad Vivacqua of Syracuse; her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Mary Thomas of Herkimer; and her in-laws, Sid Vivacqua and Agnes Wilk. She also leaves a large extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends, too numerous to mention. Aside from her parents and husband, Dolores was predeceased by her sister, Julia Carnavale, her brother, Anthony Thomas, and by many in-laws. Due to current health restrictions, Dolores’ family will gather privately at the funeral home to bid their farewells to her. Friends and relatives are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial which will take place on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 10:30AM at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort.
