Obituary of Irene Mang

FORT PLAIN – Mrs. Irene (Hazard) Mang passed into her Savior’s presence on February 26, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was a devoted mother and a devout Christian. Irene was hospitable and generous. She loved to have guests for Sunday dinner or host large gatherings in her home. She was an excellent cook. Irene gave her life to Christ at age 13. She became very involved with Youth for Christ and the ministry of Rev. Jack Wyrtzen. She sang in a trio that was part of Rev. Wyrtzen’s evangelistic crusades. Throughout her life she spoke openly about her faith and wanted others to have the opportunity to know her loving Savior, Jesus Christ. Irene came from a musical family. She loved to sing and made sure her children had the opportunity to pursue their musical interests as well. This influence continued with her grandchildren. She was born November 18, 1933, in Gloversville, New York, a daughter of the late Francis A. and Clara (Smith) Hazard. She graduated from Gloversville High School. Irene worked a variety of jobs over the years from electronics to advertising, cooking and to selling insurance. She pursued her college degree by going to night school in her forties. She graduated with an associate degree in Graphic Design from Mohawk Valley Community College and was a talented illustrator. She enjoyed meeting new people and being active in the community. She was happiest presiding over a large family meal or sitting with a baby on her lap. The family would like to thank Hospice of Oneida County for their tender and professional care during Mom’s final days. We would ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be given to Valley Alliance Church (85 E. Main St., Palatine Bridge, NY 13428), the Billy Graham Association (PO Box 1270, Charlotte, NC 28201-9966) (or the American Heart Association, 125 Business Park Drive, Ste 106, Utica, NY 13502). Irene is predeceased by her husband, George D. Mang; son, Eric F. Mang; and brother, Francis E. Hazard. She is survived by two sisters, Esther (Carl) Looman, of Texas and Hazel Traylor, of California. She is also survived by her children, Mark (Marilyn) Berry, of Maine, Colleen Petrie, Kathleen (Mark) Eikost, James (Tamara) Mang and Barbara (Brennan) Fahey, all of New York; as well as her daughter in law, Lina Mang, of Pennsylvania. Irene’s extensive family includes seventeen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at the Valley Alliance Church, 85 East Main Street, Palatine Bridge, NY, on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at 3:00 PM. Interment will take place in the springtime at Indian Castle Cemetery. There are calling hours prior to the funeral service AT THE CHURCH from 1:30 until 3 PM, Sunday afternoon. If you plan to attend the calling hours or funeral service, due to COVID 19, a face mask will be required. Thank you. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Harry J. Enea, Jr., Kevin E.
