Obituary of Duane H. Aney

HERKIMER – Mr. Duane H. Aney, age 87, a longtime resident of Herkimer, NY, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021, after a long, hard fought battle with cancer, Duane was blessed to be within the peace filled surroundings of his home and his loving family was at his bedside to comfort him. He was born in Herkimer, New York, on March 4, 1934, a son of the late Duane Aney, Sr. and Edna Farber Aney. He was educated at Van Hornesville Central School and graduated with the ‘Class of 1952’. His marriage to Jean Kennerknecht took place in 1953, a union of 67 years. Duane operated the family farm in Paines Hollow until 1982 when at that time the family moved to Herkimer and was then employed for seasonal work at the Herkimer County Highway Department. Duane was a lifelong member of the Masons, served for 20 years on the Owen D. Young School Board, was a member of the NFO, the Paines Hollow Grange and Methodist Church, the Herkimer Elk’s Lodge and the Mohawk Valley Country Club. He loved to travel with his family and friends and especially loved the holidays. He is survived by his beloved family: his wife, Jean; his four daughters, Bethany (Robert) Bronner, of Mohawk, Carolyn (James) Campione, of Mohawk, Suzanne (Peter Steiner) Aney, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Elise (Barry) Lawrence, of Arnold, Maryland; grandchildren, Kyleen (Jeff) Tice, Janelle (Ismael) Obaydi, Ryan Bronner, Shannon Campione, Christopher (Samantha) Campione, Benjamin Lawrence and Sydney Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Emerson Tice, Lateef and Jett Obaydi, Luca and Quinn Campione and Madison Campione. He also leaves a twin sister, Doris Aney; a brother, George F. Aney and brother, Lyle (Kathleen) Aney; as well as many cherished nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Duane and Edna. Funeral services which will celebrate Duane’s life, will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 10:00 AM, at the Paines Hollow Methodist Church and burial will follow at the Village of Mohawk Cemetery. The family will receive family members and friends at a site to be determined.
