Obituary of Peter M. DeNigro

HERKIMER – Mr. Peter M. DeNigro, age 93, a longtime resident of Dewey Avenue in Herkimer, New York, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021, at MVHS Faxton-St. Luke’s Campus, Town of New Hartford, New York. His passing occurred with the love and support of his devoted family always at his side. Born on April 29, 1927, Peter was the son of the late Guiseppi and Margaret (Fasano) DiNigro. He was raised and educated in Utica and years later, while working and raising his family, he was proud to complete his GED in 1975. On September 7, 1945, Peter was wed to Antoinette Delores (Nardelli), at St. Anthony’s Church, in Herkimer and together they shared in a blessed union, having celebrated their 73rd anniversary. His beloved wife passed away September 12, 2018. Peter was a born leader as demonstrated by his management positions at Herkimer County Cheese, McDonald’s, Burger King and the Herkimer Evening Telegram. He attended Hamburger University, in Chicago, Illinois. His love of creating things with woodworking stayed with him throughout his life and in his spare time he enjoyed family time. First and fore most in Peter’s life was his love for and devotion to his family. He was a doting husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His love knew no bounds and he was always “checking up on or in on” someone in his family, as they were of the utmost importance to him. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia DeNigro and partner, Lisa Gifford, of Ilion. Forever in his heart were the memories of his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Tony Loiacano, who preceded him in death. He also leaves behind his three cherished grandchildren, who made his eyes shine with happiness, Michael Loiacano and his wife, Julie, of Buffalo, Nicole DeNigro and her husband, Noah Hopson, of Herkimer and Joshua DeNigro, of Ilion; his great-grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored, Megan and Brandon Loiacano, of Wheatfield, NY. In addition, he leaves many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart. He wanted nothing more than to make sure that each of his beloved family members was okay and that they never went without. He is also survived by his sisters, Carol, Madeline and Marie; brothers, Giovanni and Carmen; and sister-in-law, Janice. Besides his wife, daughter and son-in-law, Peter was predeceased by his siblings, Joey DiNigro, Joe DiNigro, Kathy, Jean Maida, Rose Rose, and Virginia Pollastro. Peter’s family is forever grateful to the staff of Elder Choice who made his last days happy ones, especially Jean, Georgianne, Cathy, Jennifer and Kim, for their compassion and consideration during this difficult time. Friends and relatives are invited to attend visitation on Saturday, March 20, 2021, from 4:00PM – 6:00PM at the original Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315) 866-1011. Peter’s funeral service will commence on Saturday at the conclusion of calling hours, at 6:00 PM, at the funeral home, officiated by Deacon James Bower, of Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church, in Herkimer. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest, will take place later this spring. All are invited to attend calling hours and the funeral service to follow.
