Obituary of Karen A. Angelichio

ILION – Mrs. Karen A. Angelichio, a longtime resident of Ilion, New York, went to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, March 22, 2021 with the comfort and love of her devoted family at her side. Karen was born on January 12, 1958, in Utica, New York, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Angeline (Tomaino) Frank and received her education from local schools, having graduated from Frankfort-Schuyler High School, ‘Class of 1976.’ She then went on to obtain a degree from Albany Business College. Karen was united in marriage to Gerald A. “Jerry” Angelichio, on October 13, 1979, at St. Mary’s Church in Frankfort, a blessed union of over 41 years. The couple attended the Church of the Annunciation, in Ilion. Karen was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world so suddenly from us, yet the memories will live on forever. She loved cooking for her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, no matter the request or the time of day, no one would ever go hungry. Being in Nana’s kitchen was special for all – it was where memories were made and her grandkids were spoiled… she loved having the family together. We also fondly reflect upon her countless hours playing games at the kitchen counter with the grandkids. We all loved listening to Karen and Jerry’s stories about their local travels, a.k.a. Friday Happy Hours! We will always remember her special smile, her caring heart, her sense of humor and her warm embraces. She was always there for us. She was simply the most selfless person you could ever meet, always placing everyone else above and beyond herself. Her legacy will remain in our hearts forever. We will never forget how tough she was, especially in her final days when she fought so courageously. She will be missed by all. Karen thoroughly enjoyed working with Herkimer County Department of Social Services for well over 35 years. All the people there were so special to her and meant everything. Thank you so much to all her numerous work friends for what you have done. The care and support, all the laughs, all the stories and the practical jokes are so comforting to reflect upon during this difficult time. She is survived by her beloved family, her husband, Jerry; her three children, Jerry C. Angelichio and his wife, Jill, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Brian Angelichio, of Charlotte, North Carolina and Valerie Day and her husband, Ryan, of Ilion, New York; her grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart, Abby and Drew Angelichio and Allie and Ross Day; her sister and brother-in-law, Helen Johnson and her husband, Robert, of Farmington Hills, Michigan; her many nieces, nephews and cousins, including special cousins, Leo and Maria Callari, Carmelita and Robert Balsdon, Debbie Schepsis and Paula Torchia; her close special friends, Barbara Ashton and Jackie Asnoe; her beloved Boston Terriers Carla and Ava; and many family and friends she so dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vito and Frances Angelichio and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. Anthony “Tony” and Donna Angelichio. Calling hours will be held on Saturday morning, March 27th from 8:30 AM until 10:30 AM, at The Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, New York (Town of Frankfort). All are invited to attend and the funeral home staff will assist in accommodating friends and relatives who are also invited to attend Karen’s funeral service which will commence on Saturday morning, March 27, 2021, at 11:00AM, at the Church of the Annunciation, in Ilion, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Paul Catena, Pastor. Procession will follow to Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion, where Karen will be laid to rest in the family plot. Due to current health restrictions all who attend services will be asked to wear a mask and social distancing will be in effect. It is the wish of the family that those wishing to remember Karen in a special way to please consider memorial contributions to Hospice & Palliative Care and donations may be mailed there at 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, New York 13413. The family is appreciative of the care extended.
