Obituary of Matilda L. Doyle

LITTLE FALLS – Mrs. Matilda L. “Tillie” Doyle, age 92, who resided on Petrie Street, in Little Falls, New York for many years, passed away with her loving family always in her heart on Wednesday morning, March 24, 2021, in Little Falls. She was born on December 6, 1928, in Little Falls, a daughter of the late Peter and Michela (Lamanna) Rossi. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School, ‘Class of 1946.’ Her marriage to Herman Doyle took place on April 24, 1960, at St. Joseph’s Church in Little Falls. Her beloved husband passed away in September of 1993. Tillie worked at Benton Hall, Little Falls City School District within food service for many years. There are also so many wonderful memories of her working within the family grocery store and the many friends that came through. She was a devoted member of the Holy Family Parish Church, having been a longtime member of the Rosary Society. She carried memberships with the Rock City Senior Citizens where she served as past president and was a past secretary and member for many years with the DeCarlo – Staffo Post Auxiliary. Tillie loved her home, so close to her work at Benton Hall where the kids meant everything to her, a home always inviting to her friends and neighbors. She was simply put as a wonderful woman, well – loved, who touched the hearts of many. She is survived by her devoted family: her son, Joseph P. Doyle and his fiancée, Susan Jordan, of Little Falls; her brother, Peter Rossi, of Longwood, Florida; her sister-in- law, Patricia Eckler, of Herkimer; many nieces & nephews, including Linda and Will Roden, of Apalachin, New York, Jacqueline Rossi – Hertlein and Sal, of Horseheads, New York, Roger and Jeanne Rossi, of Virginia, Peter and Kathy Rossi, of Phoenix, New York and Robert Rossi, of Altamonte Springs, Florida; as well as cousins, great-nieces & nephews, many special friends and many nieces and nephews on the Doyle family side; also, God children, Cynthia Campione and Lois Ackerman. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis and Jack Rossi; and very special friends, Mary Bacher, Gloria Terenzetti, Elide Tripolone, Anita Perrino and Ida Miller. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at the Holy Family Parish Church, corner of East Main & John Streets, in Little Falls, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Brian Slezak, Pastor. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. A calling hour will be held at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, Little Falls, NY, on Tuesday morning, from 9:00 until 10:30 AM. If you plan to attend the calling hour or funeral services, a face mask will be required. Thank you. Always in Tillie’s thoughts was the love she had for her cherished cats Nudgie & Tooncie. As a testimony to her love of animals, in lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Tillie be considered to H.A.L.O., 615 Albany Street, Little Falls, NY 13365. It is encouraged to mail those directly in. The family would like to thank the staff at Alpine Rehabilitation & Nursing, for their compassionate care. Her arrangements are with Funeral Directors, longtime family friend Harry J. Enea, Jr., Kevin E. Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia (315) 823-2424.
