Obituary of David B. Souza

ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mr. David B. Souza, Sr., age 93, passed away in the beautiful surroundings of his home, on Wednesday morning, April 28, 2021, in the Town of Ephratah, with his daughter and son-in-law at his side. He was born April 9,1928, in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, a son of the late Manuel B. and Maria Almeida (Mathias) Souza. He was married to Dorothy A. “Dolly” Tomkiewicz and Dolly passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2003, in Florida. David worked alongside his wife Dolly as owner and operator of the family-owned Dutch Belt Dairy Farm in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts for nearly fifty years. He was also owner and operator of Top Gun Sports Shop, St. Johnsville. Our reflections on David and his life are easily defined as just very hard working and dedicated to the farming life. He was full of knowledge and loved to hunt, like to fish and belonged to several hunting clubs as well as the NRA. When he was younger, he played the guitar at bars and absolutely loved old country music (not the new country!) and even sang while he was farming. One of his biggest accomplishments was retirement at the age of 51! David was a turkey hunter, a deer hunter and just an all around sportsman. He travelled the world, practicing these hobbies and played the stock market in his spare time. He was an avid eater, a true lover of sweets and clam boils. We will miss him dearly and his unexpected passing is so hard to imagine. We are thankful for all the family and friends who have been there for us during this difficult time. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider a donation to the NRA in David’s memory. Survivors include his children, Lori A. Souza and her husband, Stephen, David Souza, Jr., and Carl Souza; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Glory Santos (John); his brothers, Danny Souza (Pauline), and John and his wife, Mary. He was predeceased by his siblings, Manny, Tony, Mary, Joseph, Louie, Laura, and Frank; as well as his wife, Dorothy; his son, Gary Souza; and his grandson, Joseph Hart. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves his brothers-in-law, Butch Tomkiewicz, and Fred and his wife, Pat Tomkiewicz. Funeral graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at 11:30 AM, at Souza Family Cemetery, Kringsbush Road, in the Town of Ephratah, with Rev. David A. Johnson, officiating. A private family procession will leave the Enea Family Funeral Home, at 9 Center Street, in St. Johnsville and will meet relatives and friends at the gravesite, at 11:30 AM for the service. An online memorial in honor of David has been established at www.eneafamily.com on the internet under the direction of Funeral Directors, Harry J. Enea, Jr., Kevin E. Enea and Martin L.
