Obituary of Craig R. Smith, Sr.

ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mr. Craig R. Smith, Sr., 71, of Dolgeville, New York, in the Town of Oppenheim, passed away unexpectedly, on Friday afternoon, May 14, 2021, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, in Utica, New York, with his loving family always at his side. He was born on October 13, 1949, in Gloversville, New York and was the son of the late Ronald LeRoy Cool and Ida Mary Flanders Smith. Craig was educated at St. Johnsville Central School. Craig was formerly employed by Remington Arms, in Ilion, New York and he retired after 30 years of service. On December 21, 1973, Craig was united in marriage to the former Rosemarie Comstock in Salisbury, New York. The couple have shared a loving union of nearly 48 years together. In his spare time, Craig enjoyed being an all – around outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and was a member of the NRA. In his younger years, he was active with the Boy Scouts, earning “Eagle Scout.” He is survived by his beloved wife, Rose, at home; his loving children, Jim Smith (Tina), of Van Hornesville, Tanya Smith (Mike), of Jordanville, Lillian Smith (Shawn), of St. Johnsville and Craig Smith, Jr. (Amy), of Salisbury Center; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary K. Hart (Olin), of Cooperstown; grandchildren, Jim Smith, Jr. (Katie), Madison, Alyssa, Tiffany, Dakota, Austin, Mike, II (Laura), Jayden, Olivia and Shawn; great-grandchildren, Priyanka, Presley, Logan, Alex, Lucas, Wyatt, Hailey, and Leo; his mother-in-law, Marie Comstock; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents; his granddaughter, Chloe; and his father-in-law, Arthur “Sunny”. Calling hours will be held at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, St. Johnsville, New York, on Saturday afternoon, May 22, 2021, from 4 until 6 PM. A funeral service in honor of Craig’s Christian faith will then be held in the funeral home with Rev. David A. Johnson, officiating, at 6:00 PM on Saturday as well.
