Obituary of J. Michael McLaughlin

HERKIMER - Mr. J. Michael McLaughlin, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 25, 2021, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, following a brief illness. He was 65 and at the time of his hospital stay he had the love and support of his family at his side accompanied by extraordinary kind and compassionate care from the staff of doctors and nurses. We affectionately remember our friend as “Mike” and “Bubba.” He was born in Herkimer, on March 22, 1956, the son of the late James and Catherine (Thomas) McLaughlin and was educated in Herkimer schools, a graduate of Herkimer High School, ‘Class of 1974.’ He was a proud graduate of Siena College in 1978. Mike was employed for many years of dedicated service with Crocker Insurance Agency, of Herkimer. He was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. He was a member of the Herkimer Elk’s and for many years sang with the Saint Anthony’s Glee Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed golf and watching football, particularly the Miami Dolphins. Mike also had so many wonder-filled trips to Atlantic City, with his friends. Survivors include his beloved family: his sister, Rita McLaughlin, of Albany; his aunts, Anne Blasting, of Herkimer, Rita Ewers, of New Hartford, Jane Collins, of Columbia, South Carolina and Margaret McLaughlin, of Ilion; and many dear cousins. His parents, Jim and Catherine preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., from St. Francis de Sales Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, where the Rev. Mark Cunningham, Pastor, will celebrate his Mass of Christian Burial. He will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, immediately following the Mass. In keeping with Mike’s wishes, there are no calling hours and a luncheon will be held at the Herkimer Elk’s Lodge after the burial at the cemetery. If you plan to attend the Mass of Christian Burial, due to COVID restrictions, a mask is preferred, but anyone may leave that up to their own discretion. As an expression of sympathy, kindly consider memorial offerings to St. Francis de Sales Church, 219 N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, NY 13350. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, NY 13350, Funeral Directors Harry J. Enea, Jr., Kevin E. Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia (315) 866-1011. Online condolences may be left at www.eneafamily.com on the Internet.
