FRANKFORT – Mrs. Sherry G. Sondej, age 74, passed away unexpectedly on Friday evening, May 28, 2021, in the privacy and comfort of her home. Born on March 7, 1947 in Utica, Sherry was the daughter of the late Beatrice Stacks. She was raised and educated locally, graduating from West Winfield Schools and furthering her education at the Utica School of Commerce. On May 9, 1981, Sherry was wed to Joseph M. Sondej in Ilion and the two recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Sherry worked as a waitress at the Ann Street Deli in Little Falls for many years. Sherry was a lover of animals. She held an affinity for birds and owned and operated her own business, “The Bird’s Nest”, for many years. She also adored her canine companion, Brie. She is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph; her son, James LaCelle and wife, Anna, of Guilderland, NY; her daughters, Dawn Frasier of Ilion and Wendy Hurteau and Martin Howroyd of Ilion; her stepchildren, Jody Crealy and husband, Jim, of Surprise, AZ and Joseph Sondej, Jr. and wife, Donna, of Phoenix, AZ; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters, Debra Warner and Becky Ritton, both of Ilion; her brothers, Charles “Bud” Ritton and wife, Janine, of Columbia Center and Rick Ritton of Sylvan Beach; her sister-in-law, Sandra Mealy of Marcellus, NY; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her stepson, John Sondej. In keeping with Sherry’s wishes, there will be no public funeral services.
