Obituary of Lauren J. Hailston, Sr.

HERKIMER – Mr. Lauren J. Hailston, Sr., age 71, a resident of Lake Street, in Herkimer, New York, passed away Wednesday morning, June 9, 2021, in Utica, New York. After a hard -fought battle, Lauren was always blest to be in the thoughts and prayers of those he loved the most. He was born in Herkimer, New York, on June 11, 1949, a son of the late John L. and Lois Ann (Marshall) Hailston. He was educated at Herkimer Central School and graduated from there in 1967. Lauren attended and was part of the first class ever at Herkimer County Community College and studied there for two years. His work career of over 37 years was enjoyed at the Remington Arms, in Ilion, within the heat treat machinery area. Lauren was especially loved by his beloved wife, Margaret A. Pennucci and in return, he shared the love right back with her. They were sweethearts and joined in marriage on January 22, 1972, in Herkimer, a blessed union lasting nearly fifty years. Lauren was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a hardworking man who was always there for us and simply put, would give you the shirt off his back. He was a member of the East Herkimer Fish & Game Club and he really loved the Sto-Ne-Nols Campground, in Camden, New York and all the friends they had there. For fifteen years, every Friday night, Lauren would gather with his buddies at Brian Thompson’s garage in East Herkimer, reflecting and reminiscing. This time with the boys meant so much to Lauren and his son. He is survived by his beloved family: his wife, Margaret, of Herkimer; his children, Melody Ann Collins (Joe), of Herkimer, Daniel John Hailston (Jessica), of Mohawk and Lauren J. Hailston, Jr. (Nancy), of Aurora, New York; his brother, Bruce Hailston, of Michigan; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews and close personal friends. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Lois Ann; and an uncle, Donald Marshall. Calling hours will be held to celebrate Lauren’s life versus a formal funeral service.
