Obituary of Janis A. Dickens

HERKIMER-LIVERPOOL – Janis A. Dickens, age 67, of Protection Ave., Herkimer, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford. She was born on January 26, 1954, in Ilion, the daughter of Darrell and Betty (Bassett) Day and graduated from Herkimer High School. After graduation Janis worked at the Allegro Shoe Co., in Little Falls, NY before she married and moved to Liverpool, NY. Janis was a homemaker there, a full-time soccer Mom and worked part time as a crossing guard. Janis enjoyed crocheting, knitting and cross stitch, participating in many craft fairs over the years. Later in life she found a love of Karaoke and was a regular at Karaoke nights, in Herkimer. She most enjoyed spoiling her granddaughters, Erin and Emma, who were her pride and joy. Surviving family members include her son, William Dickens, of Clay, NY; her daughter, Tyffani Dickens, of Syracuse, NY; her granddaughters, Erin Williamson, and Emma Dickens, both of Cicero; her brother, LeRoy Day, of Herkimer; her uncles, George Bogardus, Don Day and Charles “Boots” Day as well as several cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Darrell and Betty Day; her paternal grandparents, Stanley and Marion Day; her maternal grandparents, William and Florence Ling; her sons, Chad Michael and James Darrell Dickens; and her aunts, Sally Bogardus and Donita Sporney. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger facility, at 4309 Acme Rd. (old Main St.) between Ilion and Frankfort. A Celebration of Life/Prayer Service will be held immediately after calling hours, at 4:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
