Obituary of Richard B. Phillips

MOHAWK – Richard B. Phillips, age 90, of Brookside Drive, in Mohawk, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at his home. He was born on April 17, 1931, in Ilion, New York, the son of Charles A. and Mary L. (Vincent) Phillips. He was one of 14 siblings, only one of which now still survives. In the past, Richard had a passion for traveling and loved to go on day trips and even longer vacations. Richard loved music and really enjoyed going to musicals and holiday shows at the Stanley Theater. He enjoyed collecting things, especially police badges. Being surrounded by his collections made him happy. Most recently, Richard really enjoyed Minions, watching the movies and collecting many Minion items. Richard was a friendly and caring man who would gladly smile and shake your hand. His impish smile and ways brought fun and laughter to those around him. Richard was greatly loved and touched the hearts of all who knew him. He will always be remembered and sadly missed. Richard is survived by one sister, Faye Lasorella; and numerous nieces and nephews, most notably, his nephew, Victor Anesini, who traveled from New Jersey to visit Richard just before Christmas, bringing old family photos and reminiscing with Richard about times gone by. He is also survived by his loving Arc Herkimer family, especially his loved ones at his Brookside Drive home in Mohawk and his Day Program at S. Washington St. and previously at the Senior Center. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger location, at 4309 Acme Rd. (old Main St.), between Ilion and Frankfort. Funeral Services will be held following the visitation, at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home, with Tammy Helmer-Bergen, officiating. Anyone wishing to share a memory of Richard, or add to his online memorial, may go to www.applegateandday.com. Richard’s service arrangements and supervision were prearranged and entrusted to his Family Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
