Obituary of Mildred G. Marusic

Mildred G. "Milly" Marusic, age 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, January 20, 2022 after a brief illness. Born on August 8, 1925, Mildred was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Snyder) Charles. She was raised and educated in Herkimer and attended local schools. On March 10, 1945, Mildred was united in marriage to John A. Marusic at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Herkimer. Together they shared in over fifty-one loving years of marriage until John's passing on September 7, 1996. Mildred's career was spent with General Electric in Utica where she worked in the production assembly area for over thirty-four years. She was a hard worker and also helped John maintain the family farm. Milly was a warm and friendly person and was liked by everyone who knew her. She loved her family, and living to know her great grandchildren made her so happy. She kept many photos of the three of them prominently displayed as a way to "see them" every day. Milly had many interests. She was known for her cooking and especially on holidays when she would prepare so much (too much!) wonderful food for her family. Along with cooking she was an expert pie maker and could make a delicious pie at the drop of a hat. In later years, she loved garage sales, reading novels and visited the Basloe Library regularly to sign out new ones. She also loved going to the casinos and traveling abroad, with Italy and Turkey being two of her favorite countries. She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Linda Smith of MI and Nancy and William Johnson of llion; her grandson, Robert Smith of Northville MI; her granddaughter, Jennifer (Johnson) Ries and husband Mark of Arlington VA; and great-grandchildren, Ashton Smith, and Nicholas and Siena Ries; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends from her time living at Galinsky Apts. in Herkimer. She was predeceased by her parents; husband; her siblings, Dorothy Charles, Ruth Collis, Helen Lafayette, Margaret Charles, Raymond Charles, Ronald Charles, Francis Charles and James Charles; her son-in-law, Joseph Smith; and special friend, John Collis. Her family would like to thank the caregivers at Valley Health Services for their wonderful care given to Milly during her time there, especially considering the difficult conditions presented by this ongoing pandemic. In keeping with Milly's wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. Her final arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315) 866-1011, Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, Funeral Directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.eneafamily.com.
