Obituary of Catherine Accattato

FRANKFORT – Mrs. Catherine Accattato, age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, January 23, 2022, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born in Meriden, Connecticut on July 7, 1929, Catherine was the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Tomkievicz) Cashman. She was raised and educated locally and graduated from Ilion High School. As a young woman, Catherine met and fell in love with Dominick Accattato and the two were married on July 17, 1948 at Annunciation Church in Ilion. Together, they raised their family and spent over forty years in a loving union until Dominick’s passing on January 20, 1989. Later in life, she was blessed with a second marriage to John “Jack” McGurk who also predeceased her. Over the years, Katie worked at Oneida National Bank as a teller, and was the owner and operator of the Cloverleaf Motel. Together with her husband, Dominick, and son, Jim, Katie was the co-owner of the original Streamside Manor until her retirement in 2007. At one time, she was a member of the St. Francis di Paola Society Ladies’ Auxiliary as well as the American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered her time with Hospice, was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, and in her free time enjoyed shopping! Katie’s life revolved around her family and she was a wonderful, loving, caring, generous and doting mother and grandmother. The Sunday dinners, as well as the Monday through Saturday dinners, will always be a special memory. There was always room at the table for whoever happened to stop by. She lived to be surrounded by her family and strived to make the lives of those she loved, especially her grandchildren, magical. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Catherine is survived by her daughters, Jeri Frederick and Judy Zipko; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Accattato; her eight grandchildren, Andrea and Dominick Bellino, Dominick Accattato and Brittany Barker, Katie and Dave D’Agostino, Steve and Sobia Frederick, DJ Frederick, Julie and Paul Irizarry, Joseph and Tammy Zipko and Jenna and Anthony Tripple; and her eleven great-grandchildren, Luciano Bellino, Adrianna Bellino, David D’Agostino, Joseph D’Agostino, Zahra Frederick, Alya Frederick, Mariana Irizarry, Paulie Irizarry, Latina Irizarry, Italia Irizarry and Adrianna Tripple. She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Robert Luke of Ilion; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family. Aside from her parents and husbands, Catherine was predeceased by her son, James Dominick Accattato in 2021; her sons-in-law, Steven J. Frederick in 2020 and George J. Zipko in 2017; by her siblings, John and Emily Cashman, Raymond and Beverly Cashman, Irene and Earl Polley and Florence and Ed Plunkett; and by her in-laws, Marceline and John Torchia, Gemma and Guy Tassino, Sarah and Michael LiBritz and Frank and Betty Accattato. A special thank you is extended to the staff and caregivers at Foltsbrook in Herkimer, where Catherine lived through these last few years of her life’s journey; as well as to the nursing staff of St. Elizabeth Medical Center for the attention given to her through these last days. Katie’s family will gather privately to bid their farewells to her. Her earthly remains will be laid to rest in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frankfort in the spring of 2022. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413.
