Obituary of Thomas W. Shumway, Sr.

COLD BROOK-WHITESBORO – Thomas W. Shumway, age 60, of Whitesboro, formerly of Virginia and Cold Brook, NY, passed away unexpectedly, on Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Pines, in Utica. He was born on March 23, 1962, in New Hartford, NY, the son of Thomas R. and Charlotte (King) Shumway and attended Poland Central School. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force and attended college in Virginia. In his early years, Tom worked as an installer and sales for several Direct Satellite TV Companies. He later worked as an installer and Sales for ADT, in Ashland, VA and Garner, NC. Tom was an avid Buffalo Bills Fan. Surviving family members include his mother and father, Charlotte and Tom Shumway, of Cold Brook, NY; his sons, Michael Shumway, of Boston and Thomas W. Shumway, Jr. and his wife, Amanda, of Springfield, MA; his granddaughter, Destiny; his uncle, Darrell King and his wife, Pat, of New Hartford; his niece, Brianna Cotton, of Herkimer; his cousin, Alice Springer and her husband, Chris and her son, A.J.; and several other cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Darrell Shumway; and his sister, Susan Cotton. The family thanks Donna and Karen for all their help and support during this difficult time. A Celebration of Tom’s Life and Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Sunday, October 9, 2022, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location, at 102 West St., Ilion, with Pastor Scott Coffin and Pastor Zondra Coffin, officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2022, from 12 noon – 1:00 p.m., just prior to the Service, at the funeral home.
