Obituary of Judith "Judy" Butler

MOHAWK – Judith “Judy” Butler, age 83, of E. Main St., Mohawk, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. She was born on August 16, 1939, in Ilion, the daughter of Karl Goering and Alice Jane (Chavoustie) Goering. She was raised in Herkimer and attended Herkimer schools. Judy was married to Francis “Mike” Butler, who died several years ago. Her home was always decorated inside and outside, as she loved all holidays and the changing of seasons. Her clothing and jewelry were a reflection of that love, as well. Judy always enjoyed company, especially in her back yard, with music hopefully playing Ricky Nelson or Toby Keith. She was an avid fan of football and always a Chicago Bears fan. Judy was a lifetime member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, VFW and the Polish Club. For years, she was on the Board of Electors for the American Legion and was a volunteer at the VFW. She was a good friend to many people and she will be sadly missed. Surviving family members include her sons, Steven P. Carter and David Carter; her daughter, Christy Lauren and her husband, Ken; her grandson, James P. Riesel and several other grandchildren; her sister, Phyllis Waterbury and her husband, Ike; her friend, Robert “Stretch” Smith; her “special daughter”, Lisa Cross; close friends, Patty Callahan, Susie Callahan and Barbie Maas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Graveside Service will be held privately, later this spring, at the convenience of the family, at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
