Obituary of Angela Vella

HERKIMER – Angela Vella passed away peacefully, at home, on March 21, 2023, with her daughters at her side. She was born on February 3, 1930, in Herkimer, New York, the middle child of Americo and Margaret (Baltico) Risi and graduated from Herkimer High School, in 1948. She worked to support her future husband Anthony while he attended college and they were married for 57 years, until Anthony’s passing in 2011. A true “people person,” Angela made many friends throughout her life and greeted everyone with a smile. She worked for many years in Montgomery Ward and often spoke about how much fun she had there with her co-workers. Her genuine kindness and uncomplaining nature drew people to her. Her home and her kitchen were always open. After Anthony’s passing, Angela moved to Albany to share a home with her daughters. While she missed her family and friends in ‘the valley,’ she moved forward with good humor and her usual positive outlook. Angela volunteered at Teresian House Nursing Home, in Albany and went on many travel adventures with her daughters. Angela was proud of her extended family. Besides her parents and her husband Anthony, she was predeceased by her sister, Victoria Ameduri; and brother, Lawrence Risi; as well as in-laws, Fiore Ameduri, Janet Risi, and Angelo and Helen Vella, all of whom had a special place in her heart. She is survived by her cherished sister and best friend, Maryann Millar; her beloved “baby” brother, Richard Risi; her in-laws, Arnold Millar and Loretta Risi; and many special nieces, nephews and their children. She will be missed beyond words by her daughters, Lynne Vella and Margaret Vella; and four-legged companions, Daisy, Mimi and Ralphie. Angela’s daughters are grateful for and thank their family members and friends who also loved Angela and helped us make her comfortable at home during these last weeks. A special thank you to her caregivers, Sheila Adams and Deb Stalker, for the years of help and friendship to Angela and to Gail McCormick, of Community Hospice for her care and support. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Herkimer County Humane Society, 514 State Rte 5S, Mohawk, NY 13407, or a food pantry of your choice. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 12:00 noon, at the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph, South Main Street, in Herkimer, New York, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, New York. Prior to the Mass on Friday morning, please join the family at calling hours in honor of Angela, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, in Herkimer, New York, to take place from 10:00 a.m., until 11:30 a.m. All are invited to the calling hours and Funeral Services to follow.
