Obituary of Patrick M. DeRocco

FRANKFORT - Patrick Michael DeRocco, 47, of Frankfort, passed away at home unexpectedly, on April 5, 2023. He is now reunited with his father, Joseph DeRocco, whom he felt incomplete without. Patrick was born on March 17, 1976, to Regina (McCann) DeRocco-Osley and Joseph DeRocco, in Ilion, NY. Patrick was a native of Frankfort, graduating with the Frankfort-Schuyler Class of 1995, a class with strong bonds and lifelong family-like friendships. He went on to attend and graduate from Herkimer County Community College and received his Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice from the University at Albany. Patrick was so proud to have returned to his hometown to raise his girls in the community he loved the most. Patrick married Sarra Hale, on July 24, 2004, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, in Utica, NY. It was through this union of love that their beautiful daughters came to be. There was no doubt that Patrick’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was incredibly proud of his girls and would do anything for them. He often joked “I’m surrounded by women.” Truth was, he wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Patrick enjoyed traveling with his family, especially to the ocean. It was his happy place. He was a lifelong, diehard fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Yankees. He loved to hang out in his garage with his dogs and always welcomed friends to join, so long as they didn’t move anything! Patrick’s love for all family ran deep, especially his Mom. He made sure to spend time with her during days off. He always put others ahead of himself and would do anything for those he loved without hesitation. He was extremely prideful and the last one to ever ask for help. Patrick had a way to make people laugh and feel loved. Everyone who knew Pat enjoyed his company. As a child he was a gifted athlete and as an adult he was so proud of the girls’ AYSO teams he coached in Frankfort. Patrick was currently employed at the Herkimer County Sheriff’s Department as a Corrections Officer. He earned tremendous respect in this position from co-workers, inmates, professionals that visited and the families. He treated everyone with the same respect and dignity. His co-workers knew they could always count on him to help out or just make them laugh. Through his position he developed many friendships. Patrick had previously been employed by Remington Arms, Walmart Distribution Center and The House of the Good Shepherd. He developed friendships wherever he worked and always made work more enjoyable. Surviving are his wife, Sarra; his two beloved daughters, Hannah and Hailey; his three dogs, Pepper, Milo and Nova, at home; his mother, Regina DeRocco-Osley and stepfather Steve Osley, of Mohawk; one Brother, Jason, of Maryland and his children, Joselyn (Patrick’s Goddaughter), Joseph “Joey”, Jaylene and Johnny; his in-laws, Philip and Linda Hale, of New Hartford; many aunts, uncles and cousins, including Sara Billman, whom he referred to as the sister he never had. Patrick had numerous brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews that he was proud to call family. Patrick was blessed to have friendships that lasted throughout his life, Jonathan Penree, Joseph Aiello, Rick Palumbo, Scott Grates, Bert Doolen, Heather Hanford and Kristy Nole who were just a few of the FSCS Class of 1995 that became lifelong friends and family. Patrick was predeceased by his Father, Joseph DeRocco; his grandparents, John and Anne McCann and Grace DeRocco; and a special uncle, Craig Gilker. Friends and relatives are invited to attend visitation on Tuesday evening, April 11, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. Joseph Salerno, Pastor. Interment will immediately follow at Armory Hill Cemetery, in Ilion, NY where he will be laid to rest next to his father. All are invited to the calling hours and Funeral Services. For those wishing to donate, please consider a fund that will be created for the future of his daughters, or the Herkimer County Humane Society, 514 State Rte 5S, Mohawk, NY 13407.
