Obituary of Margaret D. Hall
HERKIMER – Margaret Dunning Hall, age 91, entered eternal rest, on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the Siengenthaler Center Hospice Program, in New Hartford, NY, with her loving family by her side.
She was born on August 10, 1931, in Herkimer, NY, to James and Margaret (Doyle) Dunning, the sixth of seven children. Margaret attended school in Mohawk and Herkimer and graduated with the Herkimer High School, class of 1948, at the age of 16. She married, in 1949 and gave birth to six children by the age of 27, raising each to become a successful, caring adult. While doing so, she also worked full time in human resources, first at Remington Rand/Univac and later at Remington Arms, completed an associate’s degree in business, at Herkimer County Community College and completed coursework towards a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She applied her accounting skills through retirement seasonal tax work at H&R Block. Throughout the years, Margaret volunteered tirelessly for various charitable organizations, including Catholic Charities and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, of Herkimer County, where she received multiple awards for outstanding contributions. Her passion was to ensure that impoverished populations and those without insurance would have access to critical medications needed to sustain health and life. She served the community in this capacity until nearly 80 years of age and, years later, would still hear from those whose family or friends her kindness had touched.
Margaret is predeceased by her parents; three sisters, Helen Wilson, Mary Burke and Patricia Doxtader; and three brothers, James (Bob) Dunning, Charles (Bill) Dunning and Francis (Bud) Dunning.
She is survived by her six children: Peter (Madeline) Hall, of Bohemia, Douglas Hall, of Herkimer, Marijoy (Ed) Hall, of Utica, Sheila Hall, of Richfield Springs, Richard (Sherri) Hall Jr., of Herkimer and Donna Hall, of Albany. Margaret is also survived by her granddaughter and BFF for life, Tina (Gene) Yelle, as well as 15 additionally adored grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Angela Dunning and Evelyn Dunning; and many nieces and nephews and their offspring.
Margaret’s family wishes to thank the Siengenthaler Center for the loving care they provided during her last days and her niece, Mary Burdick, for her loving support as well.
