Obituary of Joyce Elaine Youker

SALISBURY - Joyce Elaine Youker, age 74, of Salisbury, New York, passed away, at Alpine Nursing and Rehab Center, on April 12, 2023, after a brief stay due to illness. She was born in Herkimer, New York, on March 3, 1949 to the late William and Orilla Youker Sr. During her early years, Joyce attended West Canada Valley Central School until illness caused her to leave school and complete her GED. In spite of leaving school, Joyce kept in contact with her classmates and was proud to have recently attended her 50th class reunion. Joyce would later return to school and attend Herkimer County BOCES, where she would receive a certificate. Various employers had the opportunity to benefit from Joyce's services including the former Herkimer County Trust Bank, Militex Lace factory and the former Daniel Green Shoe Company. When she was not working, Joyce found herself actively devoted to her church. She was a member of the Full Gospel Assembly of God church, in Salisbury Center. During her lifetime, Joyce held many positions including Sunday school teacher, treasurer, Sunday school superintendent, church librarian, Christ Ambassador president, BGMC liaison and board member. She also acted as part of the worship team and would fill in as a lay speaker at church where she will be remembered not only for her words but also for her constant use of props to illustrate her presentations. During her life Joyce devoted herself to her faith and family. Joyce was widely known as Aunt Joyce and while she never married her family was her proudest accomplishment. She devoted her life to caring for her parents, until their deaths. Her retirement years were then spent attending all the various family events, including weddings, reunions, birthday parties and occasional summer cookouts. Joyce was the person to call if you wanted someone to pray with you or just a listening ear. Everyone who knew Joyce knew that she had a deep love of all things-frogs. In her retirement Joyce took on many hobbies. Her new mission in life became sending notes of encouragement to family, friends and strangers alike. In her spare time, Joyce enjoyed writing to her multiple pen pals, making cards for local nursing home residents, reading, scrapbooking and watching the many backyard animals with her favorite being the birds. In her death Joyce was reunited in Christ with the many loved ones that have gone before her. Joyce is predeceased by her mother and father, William and Orilla Youker Sr.; her sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Roselle Comstock, her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Arnold Brown; her brother, William Youker Jr., her brother, James Youker; her sister, Deborah Blow; her special aunt, Dorothy Stanley; as well as many other nieces, nephews and beloved family members.
