Obituary of Dean Liberty

Dean R. Liberty, age 64, a longtime Ilion resident, passed away unexpectedly on Monday evening, April 17, 2023, at the MVHS St. Elizabeth Campus. Born in Troy, NY on March 26, 1959, Dean was the son of the late Robert and Marion (Bevevino) Liberty. He was raised and educated in Troy and graduated from local schools. He then went on to continue his education at Hudson Valley Community College where he earned his associate’s degree. Dean’s career was spent within the insurance industry, working as an adjuster with various companies, including Commercial Travelers, MetLife and lastly for Excellus in Utica. On July 3, 1988, Dean was wed to the former Margaret “Meg” Marley and together they shared in almost thirty-five years of marriage. They had a strong love and mutual respect for one another and focused on raising their sons on good morals and sound principals. Dean was first and foremost a husband and father and nothing gave him greater joy than watching his sons grow into men. He was always a staple at their events and enjoyed coaching their sports throughout the years, especially baseball. He was an avid sports fan who cheered for the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Steelers and had a knack for collecting sports memorabilia. He was a bowler and a golfer and played in leagues over the years. He was also proud to hold a membership with the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Dean was always a great supporter of donating blood and plasma and this is a cause that he passed on the importance of to others. His final gift on this earth was that of being an organ donor…so that in his passing others could find life. He is survived by his wife, Meg; his sons and daughter-in-law, Jack and Mackenzie Liberty of Utica and Ted Liberty of Columbus, Georgia, currently stationed at Fort Benning; his sister and brother-in-law, Dawn and John Merola of Troy, NY; his in-laws, Melinda Marley and Matt and Debbie Marley, all of Ilion; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Friends and relatives are invited to attend visitation for Dean on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 4:00PM – 6:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000.
