Obituary of George Amendolare

ILION - George D. Amendolare, age 84, of 62 Maple Place, Ilion, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 25, 2010. He was born on July 26, 1926, in Frankfort, the son of George and Mary Frances Amendolare and attended Frankfort schools. On April 30, 1949, he was married to Catherine "Kate" Lubey at The Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. George was a heavy equipment operator with the NYS Thruway Authority (Herkimer section), for thirty-three years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Church of the Annunciation and President of the Frankfort Young at Heart Senior Citizens. Survivors include his wife, Catherine "Kate"; Three sons, George T. Amendolare and his fiancée Catherine Evans, of Yorkville, NY, Raymond J. Amendolare and his fiancée Catherine Grose, of Mohawk, and Gary A. Amendolare, of Ilion; nine grandchildren, Chris, George Michael, Tamra, Jennifer, Raymond James, Gary J. L., Ashley, James and Diane; his great-granddaughter, Faith; three step-grandchildren, David, Jennifer and Christopher; his sister and brother-in-law, Jenny and Pat Wrinkler, of California; his brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Carolyn Amendolare, of Frankfort; his sister-in-law, Annette Amendolare, of Frankfort; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Charles, Patrick and Joseph Amendolare; four sisters, Frances Vivacqua, Helen Valente, Victoria Paoni and Josephine Wrinkler. Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, September 30, 2010, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, and 2 p.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Leo Potvin, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Calling hours are Wednesday, September 29, 2010, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Members of the Frankfort Young at Heart Senior Citizens will meet at the funeral home at 4:15 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2010. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Annunciation Memorial Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Kate and her family have requested that George's services be personally arranged and supervised by his friend, Don Applegate, Funeral Director.
