Friends and relatives are invited to a Memorial Service for David "Dave" Bates, 52, of Utica, on Saturday, February 26, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at the Rescue Mission of Utica's Seaburg Chapel, located at 201 Rutger Street. Dave was a drug and alcohol counselor at both the Rescue Mission and Insight House for seventeen years. Survivors include his wife, Marie (Williams) Bates; step- daughter, Ronda Williams; his sister, Alice Schuler; brother, Bruce Bates; sister-in-law, Lorraine Caplette; one sister; several other brothers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, including co-workers at the Rescue Mission and Insight House and his best friend, Rick Johnson. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given to the Rescue Mission of Utica.
