Obituary of Peter Bono

FRANKFORT-Peter F. "Pete" Bono passed away on February 17, 2011 in Oklahoma City, OK, following a brief illness. He was born in Frankfort, NY, December 12, 1929, the son of the late Samuel T. Bono and Carmella (Frank) Bono. Peter was a member of the Catholic Church and attended Frankfort schools, graduating with the "class of 1947". Upon graduation from high school, he was employed by the A & P Tea Co., working both in Ilion and Herkimer, NY. In 1950, he entered military service with the US Army and spent most of his tour in Germany. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1952 and served in the Reserves until 1956. In 1952, he returned to work with the A & P Tea Co., in Herkimer, NY. He stayed for less than a year and entered college at the American University in Washington, DC in 1953. There he met his future wife, Rosalyn C. Bradford. They both graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in biology in 1957. Upon graduation, they were married at the Church of the Annunciation in Washington, DC and after their marriage he was employed by Safeway Stores, Inc., for which he had worked for part-time while attending college. For Safeway, he worked at retail stores, then in the employment office, and later transferred to the bakery division as Production Control Manger. In 1963, he accepted a transfer to Oklahoma City, OK, as General Plant Superintendant of the bakery. In 1977, he assumed the duties of Plant Manager until his retirement in 1988. Peter was an avid bowler from 1947 until 1997 and was a longtime beekeeper. He wishes to express his gratitude for the many friends and colleagues he felt privileged to know throughout his lifetime, as well as the opportunity to attend his 50th high school class reunion in 1997 in Frankfort, NY and 50th Army reunion in Raleigh, NC, in 2000, and to celebrate his and Rosalyn's 50th wedding anniversary in 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel T. Bono in 1972 and Carmella M. Bono in 2003, his brothers, Dominick S. "Donnie" Bono in 2003 and Joseph P. Bono in 2009. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosalyn, of the home in Guthrie, OK; three sons and daughters in law: Tom and Debbie Bono of Corpus Christi, TX, David and Ruby Bono, of Bellevue, WA, and Chris and Jennifer Bono of Edmond; daughter and son in law: Cherie and Randy Hamilton of Guthrie; nine grandchildren: Eric, Cody, Ryan and Michael Hamilton, of Guthrie; Douglas Bono of Bellevue; Alyssa Bono of Edmond; Christie Knoll, Jason Cox and Codie Rowe and their families, all of Corpus Christi; three sisters in law, Louise Bono of McLean, VA, Cyndi Bono of Vienna, VA, and Mary Grace Phillips of Atlanta, MI and countless other relatives and friends residing in Frankfort and out of state. Fr. Robert Wood officiated at graveside memorial services on Feb. 22, 2011 at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, OK. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, friends contribute to the American Lung Association or other charitable organizations. The family is being served locally by Daniel J. Enea, director-Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, town of Frankfort, (894-8000).
